MESSINA (Patrick). "Jacques Monory et André S. Labarthe, Par - Lot 293
MESSINA (Patrick). "Jacques Monory et André S. Labarthe, Paris" (2005). Inkjet print on Hanemühle paper, dated and signed on the back. Size of support and subject: 33 x 48.5 cm. Patrick Messina (°1967) is a graduate of the Institut Louis Lumière in Paris. He has photographed for Les Inrockuptibles, Libération, Le Monde, Télérama and others. A member of the Métis photo agency. His particularity is that he shoots portraits with a camera, and uses the Tilt-Shift system, in which the camera is tilted during the shot. The result is a beautiful blur on part of the photo, and a sharp focus on the person being portrayed. This technique is Patrick Messina's trademark. He was the only one to use it in the early 90s, and has since inspired many photographers. His photos are quite rare on the market. They have been the subject of several books published by Filigranes. He is one of the 4 founders of the mission France(s) Territoire Liquide, a collective research project on the French territory. His work can be found in public collections (BNF-FRAC Bretagne) and private collections (Hemès, Société Générale).
