BERS GRANDSINGE (Jean-Pierre Bers Mbalaka, known as). Untitled (1992-1993). Polyurethane and oil on paper pasted on panel, mounted in a white American wooden box, signed on the lower right corner. Frame size: 93 x 63 cm; subject: 73 x 55 cm. This painting was exhibited in Dallas in 1993. Born in Ipamu, Bers Grandsinge (°1955) is a contemporary Congolese artist. Trained at the Kinshasa Academy of Fine Arts, the artist moved to Belgium in the 1980s. He met Jean-Michel Basquiat in Harlem in 1985 through the intermediary of New York painter Franco. Basquiat dubbed him "the biggest monkey in Africa", and from then on Jean-Pierre Bers signed and became Bers Grandsinge. His work ranges from painting to photography, digital art and music. Through this great variety, the artist tackles the theme of human destiny.
