BAZUNGULA (Maurice). "Composition" (2019). Oil on canvas, da - Lot 34
BAZUNGULA (Maurice). "Composition" (2019). Oil on canvas, dated and signed lower right corner. Size of support and subject: 57 x 55.5 cm. Maurice Bazungula (°1942) trained at the Alhadeff School in Kinshasa, founded by the Belgian Maurice Alhadeff to promote African art. He is best known for his works with abstract faces and figurative compositions. His paintings are often executed in oil on supports such as isorel panel. Although he evolved in the same period as the masters of Congolese "popular painting" (such as Chéri Samba or Moke), his style is distinguished by a more abstract or academic approach learned in the workshops of the colonial and post-colonial era.
