BROODTHAERS (Marcel). Invitation card for Marcel Broodthaers' very first exhibition, at Galerie Saint-Laurent in Brussels from Friday, April 10 to 25 [1964]. Layout by Corneille Hannoset, printed on both sides of a sheet of glossy paper from previously printed fashion magazines. Format: 25.2 x 33.7 cm (center fold). Because of the medium used, each copy is different. Text: "I too have wondered if I couldn't sell something and succeed in life. I've been good at nothing for a while now. I'm forty years old... The idea finally crossed my mind to invent something insincere and I immediately set to work. After three months, I showed my work to Ph. Edouard Toussaint, the owner of Galerie Saint-Laurent. But it's art," he said, "and I'd be happy to exhibit it. Okay," I replied. If I sell something, he'll take 30%. I've heard that's normal. Some galleries take 75%. What is it? Actually, objects [...].
