ANDERSEN (Hendrik Christian). Creation of a World Centre of - Lot 488
ANDERSEN (Hendrik Christian). Creation of a World Centre of Communication. Architect: Ernest M. Hébrard. Paris, 1913, folio, full publisher's green cloth (heavy foxing on edges and several pages). First edition. A visionary utopian urban planning project, the "Cité mondiale", also known as the World Communication Center, was imagined by sculptor Hendrik Christian Andersen in collaboration with architect Ernest Hébrard. Conceived as a universal capital dedicated to the arts, sciences and diplomacy, this city was to embody an ideal of peace and progress at the beginning of the 20th century. A monumental work, richly illustrated, intended for an international elite (heads of state, intellectuals, philanthropists), with the aim of inspiring support for the project. Long forgotten, this audacious project has been rediscovered thanks to the research of Jean-Baptiste Malet. Original propaganda documents and two art magazines contemporary with the project are enclosed. Uncommon.
