WINANCE (Jean). "Deux enfants et un bateau (portrait de Mich - Lot 499
WINANCE (Jean). "Deux enfants et un bateau (portrait de Michel et André Pourtois)" (1936). Oil on panel, dated and signed lower left, mounted in a gilded wooden frame. Dim. frame: 104 x 113.5 cm; subject: 84 x 94 cm (1 or 2 slight chips in the frame). This painting was shown in the "Nervia" exhibition in Mons in 2002. Jean Winance (1911-1999) trained with Constant Montald at the Brussels Academy. He made his debut as a portrait painter in 1931 in Binche, then joined the "Nervia" group with Buisseret, Paulus, Strebelle and Navez, after making the acquaintance of Anto-Carte. He developed a style tending towards hyperrealism, with larger-than-life portraits, compositions featuring everyday subjects, and fabrics with seemingly nonchalant drapery. His works can be found in the museums of Binche, Tournai and La Louvière.
