Brux, 1920-1927, 8° or small 4°, paperback or hardback (qqs. covers damaged, bindings rubbed, 1 cover missing, faint spotting and scattered russets). First edition. In the autumn of 1920, Paul-Gustave Van Hecke and André De Ridder founded Galerie Sélection, which they defined as a "Atelier d'art contemporain", a center whose activities revolved around new art. To support this mission, they published the periodical "Sélection", Chronicle of artistic life for seven years. This monthly magazine was above all an important forum for the promotion of the second Sint-Martens-Latem group in particular, with Constant Permeke, Gustave De Smet, Frits Van den Berghe, and of Expressionism in general. In the early years, Sélection was hostile to abstract art, and essentially defended an art form that still recognized perceptible, visible reality. From 1923 onwards, their interests extended to French Cubism, the Dada movement and Surrealism. Rare head of a complete collection.
