6 CRISPIN DE PASSE (1564?-1637), Crispin de Passe the Elder, or Crispin de Passe I, or Crispijn van de Passe I, born in Arnemuiden in 1564 and buried in Utrecht on March 6, 1637, was a Dutch draughtsman, engraver, illustrator, printer and publisher. Exceptional collection of 121 engravings including several complete suites bound in one volume in full vellum, smooth spine, small flaps, double gilt decoration framing the boards, gilt title and gilt motifs on the spine, clasps (missing buttons). Impeccable pastiche of 17th century binding. - Pl. 1-4 : The four elements : ignis, aer, aqua and terra, 4 engravings numbered 1 to 4 at the bottom, of 11 cm Ø surrounded by a decoration of different animals for each. The first one is signed at the bottom "Crisp. d. P. ". No place or date (late 16th-early 17th c.). Complete suite. - Pl. 5-17: Schemata XII Mensum, sive operationibus, et ad signa zodiaci applicatione, in quatuor anni partes divisa, 13 engravings including the title and the 12 months of 12,2 cm Ø. "Inventore M. de Vos sculpsit et excud. Crispi de Pas" [Maarten de Vos (1532-1603) and Crispin de Passe]. Without place or date (1590-1626). Engravings signed at the bottom. Complete suite. Maarten de Vos, Maerten de Vos, Martin de Vos or Marten de Vos born in 1532 in Antwerp, where he died in 1603, was a Flemish painter of religious, allegorical, historical and portrait subjects. - Pl. 18-27 : The Ages of Life. 10 engravings of 12 cm Ø. Bartholomeus Spranger (1546-1611) was a Flemish Mannerist painter, draughtsman, and engraver active at the Prague court of Rudolf II. 13.5 x 11.5 cm.
