                            VINCHE (Lionel). - Lot 394

                        VINCHE (Lionel).
"To Saint Job" (1983). Mixed media on paper, titled, dated and signed. Size of the support and the subject : 74,5 x 73 cm (thin cuts on the margins). Painter, draughtsman, watercolourist, creator of murals and theatre sets, Lionel Vinche (°1936) trained at the Academy of Brussels, but was largely self-taught. At the age of 20 he joined a shipping company and travelled to the United States and Africa (1956-1957). He also worked as an actor in several Brussels theatres (1959-1962). Lionel Vinche started to paint in 1961; he moved to Brussels in 1982. His paintings are fed by a thriving imagination. His work is an evocation of popular sayings, (disguised) figures, animals, plants, flowers, chubby nudes. Each piece has a long title, and immerses us in a magical universe, sometimes burlesque, sometimes fairy-like, but always exuding happiness and fantasy.
