IONESCO (Irina) and ROBBE-GRILLET (Alain). Temple of mirrors - Lot 461
IONESCO (Irina) and ROBBE-GRILLET (Alain). Temple of mirrors. P., Seghers, 1977, 4°, publisher's binding, illustrated silver jacket. First edition illustrated with more than 80 nude photographs by Irina Ionesco. Of Romanian origin, Irina Ionesco (Paris, 1935-2022) became interested in photography in 1964, when she received her first camera from the hands of the painter Corneille (with whom she lived for about ten years). She then began an important series of erotic portraits in black and white. In 1974, her photographs were presented at the Nikon Gallery in Paris and met with exceptional success. They mainly represent women posing half-naked, made up and dressed in highly extravagant outfits and accessories. Among her models has long been her young daughter Eva, whose photographic nudes are still highly controversial today (cfr "Eva" by Simon Liberati published by Stock in 2015). Between 2000 and 2012, Irina Ionesco is also a fashion photographer for Vogue, Stiletto or Givenchy. Whether it is about naked women or yakusas, her photographs conceal a hypnotic power, expressing the ambivalence of seduction.
