FRANCKEN, Ruth.—HEIDSIECK (Bernard). *Partition V*. Art book - Lot 716
FRANCKEN, Ruth.—HEIDSIECK (Bernard). *Partition V*. Art book by Ruth Francken. Paris, Le Soleil Noir, 1973. 1 of 75 limited-edition copies printed by Sirène using offset, in a sculpted binding by Ruth Francken (32.5 x 32.5 x 7 cm), with 2 movable elements (telephones) as a flat superstructure, made of cast aluminum and elevated on a smoked Altuglass base, featuring a drawer serving as a storage compartment for the book. The book opens to reveal six double-sided 33 TM flex discs. Recordings by Bernard Heidsieck of all the poems-scores. This copy is signed with a steel stylus on the Altuglass base by Francken, and in pencil on the margin by the author (small stain on the cover). Bernard Heidsieck, a multimedia poet, pioneered action poetry and was one of the co-founders of sound poetry alongside Henri Chopin in 1959, through their use of the tape recorder and microphone, tools that were no longer merely reproductive but transformative through the possible mixes they allowed. “Partition V” is the first book-and-record set published (Le Soleil Noir, Nîmes, 1993, 24).
