[Japan].—An accordion-style album containing 18 paintings in - Lot 286
[Japan].—An accordion-style album containing 18 paintings in natural pigments accented with gold leaf. The binding is covered with a fabric adorned with traditional geometric and floral motifs; a label is affixed to the upper corner with a note from that period (binding is rubbed, interior is in very fresh condition). This collaborative album was created in the late 19th century. Among the artists are Mori Shozan, Kono Obun, Myake Kyusai, and Getsutei. This composite album, commissioned for a specific purpose, is conceived as a journey through time and themes: spring, autumn, and melancholy; daily life and history. A fine example of Japanese refinement from the late 19th century.
