ICART.—JACOBUS [Jacques Brededin, known as “Docteur”]. The Life of Breasts. Illustrated with 15 etched plates and 15 headpieces by Louis Icart. Paris, Georges Guillot, 1945, 4°, 30 pp., bound in pearl-gray box leather, mastic, and greige leather in a mosaic pattern of 7 vertical bands (7 on each cover) including one contrasting band in matte ivory box leather; title in pink ozer on the right edge of the front cover; plain, unmarked spine; cover and spine in well-preserved Auvergne paper, light gray silk slipcase with the title in pink ozer on the spine (extremely rare foxing) (bound by Hugo Liesen). Limited edition of 200 copies, no. 1/10 on Japanese paper, containing the etchings in their final color state, reserved for the artist, signed by the artist. First edition of the thirty original etchings by Louis Icart, delicately enhanced with color. A very elegant contemporary binding by Hugo Liesen, whose geometric simplicity and palette of muted tones contrast with the sensuality of Louis Icart’s illustrations. A rare and beautiful copy on Japanese paper.
