[Zoophytes].—WESTENDORP (G.D.). Flexible polyp animals of Belgium. A collection of bryozoans, sertularians, flustres, and sponges found in Belgium, particularly in the vicinity of Ostend. 1st installment. Kortrijk, Beyaert-Feys Printing House, 1853, 4°, green half-cloth with laces, smooth spine with title label (edges foxed, water stain in the lower corner). First edition comprising 32 dried, preserved, and well-maintained specimens, each labeled at the bottom of the page. Complete with all specimens of various sizes. A rare exsiccata by Gérard Daniel Westendorp (1813–1869), a Belgian military physician and naturalist. Beyond his expertise in marine fauna, he is renowned in the history of science as a mycologist and botanist.
