RIMBAUD.—"Le Courrier des Ardennes." Issue of November 29 an - Lot 48
RIMBAUD.—"Le Courrier des Ardennes." Issue of November 29 and 30, 1891. Charleville, 1891, 1 in-plano fascicle of 4 pages. First obituary announcing the poet’s death, published 19 days after his death in Marseille. The text is signed by Louis Pierquin, a local poet and childhood friend from the Charleville middle school, who was the first to inform Paul Verlaine of Rimbaud’s death. In this article, he attempts to explain his friend’s life journey. To avoid offending the conservative readership of the *Courrier des Ardennes*, Pierquin’s remarks remain measured and cautious, sidestepping the poet’s bohemian lifestyle and Parisian scandals to focus on his precocious genius and his travels. Rare. Included are 5 issues of *Les Lettres françaises*, edited by Louis Aragon, containing several articles devoted to Arthur Rimbaud. Paris, 1954–1957, 5 fascicles, in-plano, loose sheets./ Set of 6 pieces.
