LE GONIDEC. French-Breton Dictionary, expanded with addition - Lot 38
LE GONIDEC. French-Breton Dictionary, expanded with additions and an essay on the history of the Breton language by Th. Hersart de La Villemarqué. Saint-Brieuc, L. Prud’homme, 1874, 2 vols., 4°, brown half-basane, spine with 5 raised bands, red title label (binding rubbed, foxing; lower edge of the title page of the 2nd vol. missing). Jean-François Le Gonidec (1775–1838) is considered the father of modern Breton lexicography. His dictionaries standardized and codified the spelling of the language. His two major works are the *Dictionnaire celto-breton* (1821) and the *Dictionnaire français-breton*. A very complete set in 2 volumes.
