[NODIER (Charles). Journal de l'expédition des Portes de Fer - Lot 17
[NODIER (Charles). Journal de l'expédition des Portes de Fer. Paris, Imprimerie Royale, 1844, large 4°, 329 p., 200 woodcut vignettes and 39 plates hors texte printed on Chine appliqué by Descamps, Dauzat, Raffet, etc., 1 folding map, red glazed half-calf with corners, smooth spine titled in gold, gilt head, combed endpapers (spine stained, very rare spotting). First edition printed on wove paper, the only edition with 6 Chine. In 1839, the Duc d'Orléans, eldest son of King Louis-Philippe, completed a long journey through Algeria. The various notes taken during his expedition were subsequently written up by Charles Nodier. This unique edition was never placed on the market, but was reserved for the family of the Duc d'Orléans and members of the expedition (Carteret III, 436-437). A good copy.
