GABRIEL (Henri Brouwers, known as Henri). "Composition" (195 - Lot 185
GABRIEL (Henri Brouwers, known as Henri). "Composition" (1959). Acrylic on paper, dated and signed on the back, mounted under passe-partout and black frame. Frame size: 48 x 44 cm; subject: 21 x 17 cm. Henri Gabriel (1918-1994), born in Brussels, was a self-taught artist. He produced his first kinetic art compositions around 1960. His works, based on geometric forms, give an impression of relief thanks to natural light. In 1965, with artists Emiel Bergen, Gilbert Decock, Victor Noël and Marcel-Henri Verdren, he founded the D4 group. In 1966, with the arrival of Jo Delahaut, the group changed its name to the evocative term Geoform, immediately defining its chosen plastic orientation. Retrospective at the Verviers and Mons Museums in 1995.
