HERNANDEZ (Anthony). "Landscape for the Homeless. Cibachrome - Lot 96
HERNANDEZ (Anthony). "Landscape for the Homeless. Cibachrome print, just. 3/5 and signed on verso, mounted in a black wooden frame. Provenance Polaris Gallery (stamp on back). Frame size: 41.5 x 51 cm; subject: 39.5 x 49 cm (fine chips in frame, glass slightly scratched). Anthony Hernandez (°1947) is an American photographer who divides his time between his native Los Angeles and Idaho. His photographic work ranges from street photography to images of the built environment and other vestiges of civilization, notably those abandoned or discarded elements that bear witness to human presence. He has spent most of his career photographing Los Angeles and the surrounding area. It is Los Angeles' combination of beauty and brutality that has always intrigued Hernandez. The Venice Biennale said of Hernandez: "For three decades, a nagging question has preoccupied the photographer: how to represent the contemporary ruins of the city and the brutal impact of urban life on its most disadvantaged citizens." The work we present is part of this photographic quest.
