MORIYAMA (Daido). Tokyo revisited (Special Edition). Tokyo, - Lot 825
MORIYAMA (Daido). Tokyo revisited (Special Edition). Tokyo, Akio Nagasawa, 2022, 4°, publisher's hardback, illustrated slipcase. Original edition of 500 numbered copies, including an original print, justified and signed on the spine (size: 21 x 16.5 cm). Daido Moriyama (°1938) is a Japanese photographer. His photographs bear witness to the changing mores of Japan in the second half of the 20th century. Moriyama is best known for his black-and-white, high-contrast, grainy photographs. His angles of view are original, and he likes to play with shots. But he is also a nude photographer. His first series, dating from 1969, takes an unprecedented approach to the nude: a dozen poorly shot images of a faceless, identity-less woman on a bed, in a natural, unadorned position. Once every two weeks, Playboy magazine (Japanese version) published her photos, alternating with Kishin Shinoyama, a famous figure in commercial photography, who would become known for her nudes.
