[NAVILLE, Pierre]. The Revolution and the Intellectuals. Wha - Lot 714
[NAVILLE, Pierre]. The Revolution and the Intellectuals. What can the Surrealists do? Position de la question. Paris, [L'Auteur], 1926, 8°, 32 p., br. with red cover printed in black. First edition (a second edition was published by Gallimard in 1927). Pierre Naville (Paris, 1904-1993) joined the French Communist Party, which asked him to take over the direction of the magazine "Clarté", edited by Henri Barbusse. In 1926, he published "La Révolution et les Intellectuels" (Revolution and the Intellectuals), written during his military service, in which he attempted to move Surrealism towards Marxism. This text provoked tensions with the Surrealist group, although the movement's orientation did not seem different. A fine copy.
