DUCHAMP (Marcel). Museum in a Box. Cologne, Walther König, 2 - Lot 631
DUCHAMP (Marcel). Museum in a Box. Cologne, Walther König, 2015, 1 wooden box, 37 x 38 x 8 cm. Facsimile of Marcel Duchamp's famous "Box" by Mathieu Mercier, who worked for five years on its reissue. "Duchamp enclosed his life's work in a sturdy little box, equipped with various ingenious folding devices. It contains reproductions of his Grand Verre on Plexiglas, color renderings of his paintings, reproductions of his drawings and a selection of his humorous texts, a Parisian air glass bulb, a urinal, a small sugar bowl, etc.". The Museum in Box is one of Marcel Duchamp's most striking and mysterious works of modern art. It contains his entire artistic output. Perhaps anticipating the approach of war, and having no fixed address, he reproduced his work in a format enabling him to transport it easily. Mint condition.
