BAUGNIET (Marcel-Louis). Kaloprosopies. 9 woodcuts by M.L. B - Lot 532
BAUGNIET (Marcel-Louis). Kaloprosopies. 9 woodcuts by M.L. Baugniet. Brux, Les Editions de la Vache rose, (1925), 4°, leaves, gray glazed paper cover with title-piece (cover badly damaged, inside very fresh). First edition printed in 115 numbered copies, 1/15 head copies on Japon. Copy no. 2, signed by Baugniet, and enriched with a dispatch at the head of the volume: "au vieux camarade De Nobele [René De Nobele, musician and husband of Mig Quinet] / en cordial et sympathique souvenir / M. Baugniet / le 10 mai 1925". Rare, almost complete suite (8 of 9 woodcuts), on the dancer Akarova. Dancer, painter, writer and sculptor Marguerite Acarin dit Akarova (1904-1999) was the wife of Marcel-Louis Baugniet from 1923 to 1928. For almost three decades, she was a leading figure in Belgian cultural life. A friend of poets and musicians, she was a staunch defender of contemporary music: Stravinsky, Darius Milhaud, Poulenc, to name but a few. The latter, along with Blaise Cendrars, visited the salle de la danseuse in Ixelles on several occasions (Dypreau et Langui, Marcel-Louis Baugniet, p. 72). Extremely rare in the first edition.
