YAMASAKI (Minoru). The World Trade Center in the Port of New - Lot 499
YAMASAKI (Minoru). The World Trade Center in the Port of New York. File including some fifty typed pages from the various parties involved (the director of public relations for the Port of New York Authority, the architectural firm Emery Roth and Sons, the architect, etc.) in the construction of the twin towers in New York. This set, dated 1964, is complemented by 27 photographs of drawings, plans, views and portraits by American architectural illustrator Carlos Diniz. Also included is a 1968 letter to Belgian real estate developer Charly De Pauw concerning the construction of the World Trade Center in Brussels, along with a small dossier of the World Trade Center project in Baltimore. All in a silver folder illustrated with the 2 famous New York towers (numerous fold marks on the folder). The World Trade Center project was launched by David Rockefeller and his brother Nelson, then developed by the New York Port Authority, which hired architect Minoru Yamasaki. Construction of the North Tower began in August 1968, and the South Tower in 1969. Construction was very rapid, thanks in part to the extensive use of prefabricated components. The first tenants arrived in December 1970. Four more smaller buildings followed. The center was inaugurated on April 4, 1973. In the 1980s, a 7th tower was added. The seven buildings making up the World Trade Center site, including the twin towers, were destroyed in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. Beautiful set.
