BOULENGER (Marcel). The rarest volcelest in the world. Illus - Lot 79
BOULENGER (Marcel). The rarest volcelest in the world. Illustrations by Pierre Brissaud. Paris, Devambez, 1914, 8° carré, bradel half-framed corinthian morocco, smooth spine titled in gold throughout, marbled paper boards edged with gilt fillet, taupe laid paper linings and flyleaves, untrimmed, covers and spine cons. in matching edged slipcase (binding by Hugo Liesen). The entire work is mounted on tabs. Ex-libris Christiane Moulu and Jacques Culot. First edition illustrated with 10 hors texte etched and stenciled by Mortier, and wood-engraved bands in sanguine. Limited edition of 100 copies, 1/90 on [strong] Arches paper, 2nd paper after 10 Japon. This "fantastic" hunting story is the third work illustrated by Brissaud. In hunting, a volcelest is the imprint left by an animal's foot on the ground. In this case, a Centaur's footprint. A very fine copy.
