28 SAND (George). Leone Leoni. Paris, Félix Bonnaire ; Victo - Lot 28
28 SAND (George). Leone Leoni. Paris, Félix Bonnaire ; Victor Magen, 1835, 8°, 340 p., green glazed half-calf, smooth spine decorated throughout, author and title gilt, edges cased (upper headband damaged, spine faded and rubbed, numerous russets). First edition enriched with an engraved portrait of the author by Luigi Calamatta. False-title reads "Publications de la Revue des deux mondes", where the novel was published as a pre-original in 1834. A romantic work written during her stay in Italy, where her affair with Musset came to an end, George Sand admits to having been inspired by Manon Lescaut in Leone Leoni, but reversing the characters. Not very common.
