Poet, writer, art critic and man of culture, Jocelyn Bargoin (1844-1876) adopted the Parnassian style in the spirit of the school of poetry founded by Théophile Gautier, a follower of formal perfection in writing and criticism. He wrote 2 vaudevilles, launched 2 journals of theater criticism, and organized a salon called "Les Amis des Arts". In 1870, he began writing short stories. The collection "Soirs d'hiver" was very well received when it was published in 1874. Jocelyn Bargoin maintained regular correspondence with Victor Hugo, François Coppée and Théodore de Banville. He died prematurely at the age of 31.
