APOLLINAIRE (Guillaume). Handwritten letter-card addressed t - Lot 509
APOLLINAIRE (Guillaume). Handwritten letter-card addressed to René Dupuy [René Dalize], 40 rue Verneuil, Paris. Stamped letter, dated July 4, 1912. "My dear René, / I haven't received a letter / for dinner. Billy had / told me about it, but I didn't / get the letter. You / must have forgotten it in one / of your pockets. / I'm sorry, but / I assure you I haven't / received anything / Your / Guillaume." On verso, in hasty handwriting: "Marie [Laurencin] fears that you / think I did / not come on purpose. / Think again / I'll go see Billy / tomorrow at 2 a.m.". René Dalize (1879-1917), born Charles Marie Edouard René Dupuy, was a French writer and friend of Guillaume Apollinaire, who dedicated his collection "Calligrammes" to him. He met Apollinaire in 1892 at the Collège Saint-Charles in Monaco. He was a student there for two years. Apollinaire evokes this period in the poem "Zone" in Alcools. Dalize renewed his acquaintance with Apollinaire in Paris in 1909, and in February 1912 founded with him, André Billy, André Salmon and André Tudesq, the literary and artistic review "Les Soirées de Paris", which was published until August 1914 (Schmets, Correspondance générale I, p. 485).
