DE GEETERE - GOURMONT (Jean de). Le Toison d'Or. Novel illus - Lot 255
DE GEETERE - GOURMONT (Jean de). Le Toison d'Or. Novel illustrated with twenty hors-texte etchings by Frans de Geetere. Paris, Éditions Pellet, (1925), 4°, black framed half-maroquin, smooth spine, author, title, illustrator and year gilt, gilt head on small witnesses, cover and spine cons. edged and dotted slipcase (binding signed J. Willems, Brussels). Ex-libris of Jean Jacobs. Edition illustrated with 20 free etchings by Frans de Geetere. Limited edition of 250 copies, numbered 1/30 of the head on Japon impérial, enriched with an autograph letter signed by the author, on the letterhead of Mercure de France, in which he thanks his colleague for the tribute paid to his brother Rémy in an article in "France". One of the best books illustrated by this Flemish expressionist artist. After living in Utrecht, Frans de Geetere (1895-1973) settled in Paris - on a barge - where he published a number of self-published works. He illustrated several books, including Lautréamont's "Les Chants de Maldoror", Rémy de Gourmont's "Lettres d'un satyre" and Georges Eekhoud's "Mes Communions". A fine and rare copy in its first printing.
