CARRÉ, Léon - Le Livre des mille nuits et une nuit. Literal and complete translation by J.-C. Mardrus. Illustrations by Léon Carré. Decoration and ornaments by Racim Mohammed. P., H. Piazza, 1926-1930, 12 vols. 4°, full wine-lees chagrin, 5-ribbed spine, gilt title, tomesaison, date and head, filleted spines, spine flaps edged with triple gilt fillet, covers and spines cons. with bookplates, slipcase (spines faded: from tan to brown depending on volume; several nerves and spines rubbed, lower cuff of 8th vol. damaged, inside very fresh). Nominative copy on Japon (ex. no. IV printed for Maurice Garçon, French jurist, essayist, lyricist, novelist, polygraphist and historian, 1889-1967). In 1926, art publisher Henri Piazza commissioned Orientalist painter Léon Carré to illustrate Les Nuits, and Racim Mohammed to design the titles and headbands. Léon Carré produced 144 out-of-text color plates for the 12 volumes of this deluxe edition.
