[Agathopedic and saucial ring finger. Brux, printed by the i - Lot 17
[Agathopedic and saucial ring finger. Brux, printed by the iconographic presses of the Agath Order::, chez A. Labroue et Compagnie, cycle IV [1850], 8°, [4]-134-4 p., red half-chagrin, ribbed spine, gilt title and fillets. Unique first edition of the first publication of Les Agathopèdes, printed "in the sacramental number of 350 copies only" (ex. no. 161). Adorned with an illustrated title showing the Order's emblematic pig armed with knife and fork. Numerous comical in-text illustrations, all woodcuts by Lisbet after drawings by Louis Huard alias Grimbert le Blaireau. All contributions are signed by pseudonyms evoking a bestiary inspired by Renart's novel: Goupil le Renard (alias Renier Chalon), Tibert le Chat (H.-Ph. Delmotte), Isengrin le Loup (Prosper Antoine Cuypers van Velthoven), Martin le Singe (Félix Bovie, painter and poet), etc. A rare, good copy.
