BLOSSFELDT (Charles). La Plante. One hundred and twenty heli - Lot 891
BLOSSFELDT (Charles). La Plante. One hundred and twenty heliogravure plates after highly enlarged details of plant forms. Introduction by Charles Nierendorf. Paris, Librairie des Arts Décoratifs (A. Calavas), [1929], large 4°, publisher's green cloth with gold titling, dust jacket missing (russeting and spotting on upper cover, as well as endpapers and first and last 2 leaves, small tear at bottom of plates 118 and 119). First French edition illustrated with 120 heliogravure photographs. Charles Blossfeldt (1865-1932) took his first photographs of plants in 1890 as a student in Italy. In 1928, these photographs were collected in the book "Unformen der Kunst", which was immediately enthusiastically received. Blossfeldt's masterpiece underlines the relationship between nature and art, and has become one of the most influential books in the history of photography. The abstract forms and structures of nature he revealed impressed his contemporaries. This book was not originally intended as a conceptual work of art, but rather as an educational book.
