SALMON (André). Letters and poems addressed to Paul Fort, between 1941 and 1958. Includes: 1. 30-line typed letter in verse, signed, dated "January 1, 1942", addressed: "À toi, Paul Fort / À mon Grand Frère Ainé / Admiré / Et aimé": "Une France indécise / Dévorant ses navets / Et cette Europe assise / À son propre chevet (...).2. an autograph postcard signed, dated "Monday 14/9/42", in which he announces a radio broadcast to Paul Fort: "I have said, as best I could, verses by you, ancient idylls. Et j'imite, respectueusement, la voix de Moréas (...)".3 An autograph letter signed, dated "Paris, October 24 1951". Friends offer him a meal at La Coupole on the occasion of his 70th birthday. The menu, illustrated by Marie Laurencin, is enclosed - 4. an autograph letter, signed, in which he announces his marriage and invites Paul Fort to celebrate the occasion. The letter ends with 18 burlesque verses.6 An autograph letter signed, dated "June 30, 1953", in which he invites Paul Fort and his wife Germaine to lunch.7 An autograph letter signed, dated "January 25, 1954". An amusing letter of congratulations on the prize he has just been awarded by the city of Paris (letter cut out in the top left-hand corner) - 8. a signed typescript letter, dated "January 28, 1958". He thanks Paul Fort for helping him succeed Paul Claudel as head of the Écrivains de Champagne. "Dear Paul, my Prince (...). When Jean de la Varende speaks of his neighbor M. de Broglie, he says 'mon duc'. Moi, je dis : mon Prince quand je te nomme (...).- 9. Une lettre tapuscrite signée, datée "22 décembre 1958" dans laquelle il explique en 6 vers liminaires l'emploi obligé de la machine auquel le réduit sa vue affaiblie.- 10 A collage on 1 sheet of 4° fold-out paper, comprising 3 burlesque poems: "He lived on chipolata, / In winter, and pasta in summer, / Loving nothing but his ouistiti; / Natural son of Léautaud / All dressed in newspaper". And Salmon signs: "Dédé de Montparno". A fine collection, blending humor, friendship and occasional nostalgia.
