(...). À Louvain, chez Martin van Overbeke, 1741, in-12, [8]-194-[1] p., glazed brown half calf, 5-rib spine gilt filleted, red and green morocco title-pieces, gilt lace, fillets and fleurons, marbled endpapers (spine slightly rubbed, pale scattered russets). Very rare first edition, published in only 185 copies, of this report on the curative virtues of mineral waters discovered near the royal castle of Mariemont, with general considerations on hydrotherapy. In 1740, in the hope of competing with Spa, Archduchess Marie-Elisabeth of Austria, Governor General of the Netherlands, commissioned Servais-Augustin de Villers and his colleagues Rega and Sassenus to analyze the waters at her castle on the Mariemont estate. Rega published a first report in Latin in 1740, and de Villers published his in French, followed by a supplement in 1742.
