PERNETY (Dom Antoine-Joseph). Histoire d'un voyage aux isles Malouines, fait en 1763 et 1764 ; avec des observations sur le Détroit de Magellan, et sur les Patagons. New edition. Recast and augmented with a preliminary discourse, remarks on natural history, etc. Paris, Saillant et Nyon ; Delalain, 1770, 2 vols. 8°, IV-385 ; [2]-334-[2] p., full blond glazed calf, 5-rib spine, title-piece, flowered caissons, red edges, marbled endpapers (bindings rubbed, jaws cracked, a few small restorations, scattered russets). Second partly original edition after the Berlin edition of 1769. Complete with 18 plates and maps, including 17 fold-outs at the end of the 1st volume: plates of fish, birds, seals, costumes, etc.; maps and plans of the Strait of Magellan, Montevideo, the Falkland Islands... Dom Pernety was chaplain to the expedition led by Bougainville in 1763 to establish a French colony in the Falkland Islands. On this occasion, he visited St. Catherine's Island and Montevideo. His report is essentially devoted to the natural history of these regions.
