CASTELLANI (Enrico). "La Giostra" [The Carousel] (1953). Oil - Lot 80
CASTELLANI (Enrico). "La Giostra" [The Carousel] (1953). Oil on canvas, mounted on stretcher. Size of support and subject: 65 x 92 cm (edges rubbed and damaged, fine loss of material). Painted by Enrico Castellani when he was a student in Brussels. Enrico Castellani (1930-2017) was a major figure on the Italian art scene associated with the "Zero" movement, which, by renewing the language of image and form, made a major contribution to the development of the avant-garde in Europe in the 50's and 60's. He was also the co-founder, with Piero Manzoni, of the magazine "Azimuth" (1959). Influenced many artists, including Donald Judd, who saw him as the father of Minimalism. Participated in the Venice Biennale in 1964, 1966, 1984 and 2003. Retrospective at the Prada Foundation in Milan in 2001.
