PINERA (Virgilio). Un fogonazo. La Habana [Cuba], Letras cub - Lot 783
PINERA (Virgilio). Un fogonazo. La Habana [Cuba], Letras cubanas,1987, small 8°, br. Cover by Roberto Medina illustrated with a photograph from Gramma magazine. First edition. This copy includes two original woodcuts by the painter Guido Llinas, one printed directly on the masthead, signed and dated 1987 in pencil (with an autograph message from the artist "Para Roberto Altmann con afecto Memoirend - 1987"), the other printed on China paper, mounted on the title page, signed and dated in pencil. Abstract painter Guido Llinás (Pinar del Rio, 1923 - Paris, 2005) was a member of the "Groupe des Onze", founded in 1950 and a pioneer of free abstraction in Latin America. He then turned to a rich language of signs inspired by the ritual symbols of the Abakuas, a Cuban religious congregation of African origin. His woodcuts bear witness to the presence of Africa in his work.
