MARIËN (Marcel). Archive on communism and Mao's China. Compr - Lot 736
MARIËN (Marcel). Archive on communism and Mao's China. Comprising some one hundred manuscripts and typescripts (ca. 1955-1965). This archive offers a glimpse into Marcel Mariën's work process at the turn of the 1950s and 1960s, in a variety of forms: notes, manuscripts, work plans, corrected typescripts, etc. A testimony to the author's mental universe between the writing of "Quand l'acier fut rompu" (1957) and his return from 16 months in China in 1965. Some of the notes in this archive were taken in China, and very probably form part of the raw material he used to write a series of articles denouncing Mao's regime on his return to Europe. Together, they reflect the way he accumulated fragments, which he then reworked by experimenting with assemblages. Two "work plans" perhaps evoke the idea of a book on the subject...
