ALTMAN (Nathan). 6 jobs. Scenario by Paul François. P., Flam - Lot 499
ALTMAN (Nathan). 6 jobs. Scenario by Paul François. P., Flammarion, "Albums du Père Castor", [1935], 4°, stapled (edges slightly browned). First edition entirely illustrated in lithography. Complete with all playing cards. After studying at the Odessa Art College, Nathan Altman (1888-1970) left for Paris in 1910, where he discovered Cubism. He returned to Russia in 1911 and settled in St. Petersburg, home of the Russian avant-garde. He dedicated his art to the cause of revolution. His status as a revolutionary artist was so well recognized that Lenin agreed to pose for him in 1920. In 1928, Altman returned to Paris, where he remained until 1935, befriending Léger and Lurçat. On his return to Leningrad, Altman gave up easel painting for good, devoting himself to theater and film set design and book illustration. A fine copy.
