Orfèvrerie Wiskemann - Reunion of 6 catalogs from the Wiskem - Lot 483
Orfèvrerie Wiskemann - Reunion of 6 catalogs from the Wiskemann cutlery and goldsmith's workshop in Brussels. Years: 1911, 1914, 1926, 1931, 1933 and 1938. In 1872, Otto Leonard Wiskemann - descendant of a German family with a long history of silversmithing - opened a workshop on rue des Longs Chariots in Brussels. He witnessed the introduction of electroplating to continental Europe by Charles Christofle, who had bought the patents in England. With this knowledge, Otto was able to create a company that would later become Belgium's best-known silversmith and a figurehead for quality. The company reached its peak between the two world wars, and finally went bankrupt in the 1970s; the closing of a century of Belgian goldsmith history. Enclosed is a catalog for the German "Gebrüder Hepp" factory (ca. 1896), as well as an Indian ink drawing on tracing paper (silver plate), and 2 handwritten letters on the letterhead of the Pforzheim-based factory and signed by the Hepp brothers. Carl Hepp develops the silver plating process in 1871. The "Gebrüder Hepp 90" or "Hotel Silver" models conquered the market and over time replaced pure silver products. Hepp established itself as a supplier to high-end homes around the world, but in the late 1920s, the flourishing company was hit by the global economic crisis. Also included: the report on the Belgian Exhibition in Sweden in April 1938, enriched with a dispatch to Mr. Wiskermann. A fine set.
