CONGO - Reunion of 5 boxes containing +/- 110 stereoscopic g - Lot 452
CONGO - Reunion of 5 boxes containing +/- 110 stereoscopic glass plates (dim.: 4.5 x 10.5 cm), a few paper prints, and a wooden Vérascope Richard stereoscopic device for viewing the plates. Views of the Congo: various landscapes, scenes of daily life, hunting, etc. A passionate photographer, Jules Richard built a revolutionary stereoscopic camera in 1893. He was the first to understand the need for lenses spaced away from the inter-ocular space in order to reconstitute a perspective that "gives the image of truth in true size with relief". In another revolution, he adopted a tiny format for the time. We enclose 13 glass plates in 9 x 12 cm format (similar subject matter). Nice set.
