POULENC (Francis). Autograph handwritten... - Lot 80 - Les ventes Damien Voglaire SRL
POULENC (Francis). Autograph handwritten letter to Charles Munch. 1 folio 4° of 2 pages. In this letter, Francis Poulenc regrets not having been able to exchange as much as he would have liked when he met Charles Munch: "(...) I regretted, as I see you so rarely, not being able to exchange more than a few words with you in the specious atmosphere of the other day. I know (and I'm with you on this) that you are guided in your career only by your heart, instinct and love of music - and then shit for words. It doesn't matter if a work is dry, pointed, round, conical or rusty, if it's beautiful.(...)". Then the composer tells her about the shipments he's going to send Munch, (...) the orchestral score for 2 pianos. II. The deer score. I hope you like this latest child, who is just waiting for his blanket to leap out at you. There are a lot of imperfections in it, but I'm sure you'll make up for them to the benefit of the quolibets that I believe lurk and leap about impertinently. You are so kind to devote half a session to me that I dare not reiterate my wish to be patronized by either Schumann or Schubert. In your interest, don't forget that my music doesn't interest everyone. For May 21st place the Villageoises as you wish - I hope this spring to dine one evening with you and Yvonne - We'll talk about what we love without bias - Thank you for loving my music - You are the only conductor who proves it to me in a way that prevents me from doubting myself. For this, allow me to kiss you". A beautiful and touching letter from Francis Poulenc. Note that Villageoises is a suite of little children's pieces composed in 1933. A postcard-sized photo signed by the artist is enclosed.
