TIPPETT (Bruce). "Composition" (1971). Pastel on paper, dated and signed lower right corner. Size of support and subject: 101.5 x 66 cm (traces of fold, small tear at lower edge). Bruce Tippett (1933-2017) was born in England and studied at the Slade School of Art in London until 1957. After a period in abstraction, he discovered Japanese cinema and painting, which influenced his work. He was also struck by the calligraphy in Hans Hartung's minimalist work. Betty Parsons organized Tippett's first solo exhibition in New York in 1969. He remained loyal to her until Parsons' death in 1981. Works at the British Museum, Victoria and Albert Museum, Rockfeller University in New York, etc.
