Schwind Collection. Catalog. Brux, Galerie Fitzroy, 1971, 4° - Lot 682
Schwind Collection. Catalog. Brux, Galerie Fitzroy, 1971, 4° booklet, stapled. Invitation card pasted at head of volume. This rare bilingual catalog lists 20 works with technical descriptions, but no artists' names. It is completed by a dialogue between Pierre Restany and Jean-Pierre Van Tieghem. First edition. Jean Schwind (1935-1985) was one of the most enigmatic figures on the Belgian art scene of the 1970s, with the most sulphurous reputation. In 1971, he presented the "Schwind Collection" of New Realist pastiches at the Fitzroy gallery in Brussels. He produced pseudo-exhibitions of fashionable art, including arte povera, Christo, Fontana and Broodthaers, which he called "hommages" or "appropriations". In 1976, a fictitious death notice put an end to a brief but dazzling career. Retrospective at the S.M.A.K. in Ghent in 2014-15. Rare.
