VAN DEN BOSSCHE (Hubert). - Lot 457
VAN DEN BOSSCHE (Hubert). "Springtime". Oil on panel, signed on the lower right corner, mounted in a gilded wooden frame. Frame size: 34.5 x 43 cm; subject: 21 x 30 cm. Hubert van den Bossche (1874-1957) studied at the Brussels Academy under Jean Portaels. Around 1900, he befriended the painter Henri Roidot and married his sister Charlotte. The farm they bought around 1810 in Leeuw-Saint-Pierre became a meeting place for young Brabant painters such as Thévenet, who came from Halle, Roidot, who repeatedly painted the orchard, and Maurice Blieck, Bastien and Oleffe. His realistic style is characterized by the use of thick layers of paint and broad brushstrokes to capture the effects of light.
