[Les XX].
Catalog of the V Exposition des XX with a preamble by M. Octave Maus. Brux, 1888, 8°, br. with red printed cover (cover defr., false back). First edition. When Théo Van Rysselberghe invited Toulouse-Lautrec to exhibit with the XX group in Brussels in 1888, Lautrec was already a painter of Parisian life and its places of pleasure, where the bourgeois was not afraid to mix with prostitutes and marlous, but he was still only known to a limited circle of amateurs. The reputation of the XX group had crossed the border. Lautrec seized the opportunity to take part in this exhibition known for its exacting standards. It was the first time he had signed with his own surname. Until then, he had adopted the pseudonym Treclau. He was to participate regularly in the XX exhibitions, and later in those of the Libre Esthétique, always in good company, since the artists invited included Gauguin, Rodin, Monet, Seurat, Cézanne and others. Uncommon.
