Typescript letter, signed, addressed to Gentil Haesaert. 1 f - Lot 727
Typescript letter, signed, addressed to Gentil Haesaert. 1 f. 4°, perforated, headed "Laboratorio sperimentale del Movimiento internazionale per una Bauhaus Immaginista" (folds). In an envelope with the same letterhead (envelope stamped, torn at right edge). In this letter, undated, Asger Jorn discusses the cancellation of the 1954 ceramics exhibition, which "cannot take place because Appel and Corneille have come to withdraw their things and there is almost nothing of Matta's left. Anyhow, I wouldn't have been able to make an acceptable exhibition with the elements that were left". He then proposed a new exhibition following the laboratory's congress in Alba over the summer: "I can assure you that we achieved extremely important results in the field over the summer, and I propose that the exhibition will have the same name as the congress: INDUSTRY AND FINE ARTS - TWO EXTREMS OF A NEW UNITY. And I can also guarantee a 100% efficient exhibition". Galerie Taptoe has been instrumental in revealing Jorn's research outside Italy. In this vein, the Dane organized the First Exhibition of Psychogeography in the spring of 1957. In addition, a series of conferences was planned to defend the situationists' aims: L'art brut de vivre and Industrie; Beaux-Arts deux extrêmes de l'unité situationniste. Although these theories remained misunderstood, the event left its mark on Belgian production. A rare and beautiful document.
