Brussels Exhibition 1910. The French Section.... - Lot 490 - Les ventes Damien Voglaire SRL
Brussels Exhibition 1910. The French Section. Album with 50 original matted and tab-mounted photographs, all titled (inner hinge cracked, title page cut out). 4° oblong album in full black percaline, presented to Jean Gody (deputy commissioner general of the Belgian government at the Brussels Universal and International Exhibition) on behalf of the commissioner general of the French government, Mr. Chapsal. Photographs of the Porte de France, the gallery and the salon d'honneur, the railroad, electricity and machinery groups, the automobile, aviation and food classes, the decorative arts salon, the gardens of France and the colonies, the visit of French senators and deputies, the galerie d'honneur and the pavilion of the city of Paris after the fire... The fire, which broke out on August 14 in the grand central palace and damaged all or part of the Belgian, English, French and Bruxelles-Kermesse sections, was reported in the press, provoking many rumors. The exhibition organizers reacted immediately, demonstrating that not everything had been destroyed, and that the damaged parts would soon be rebuilt. This event caught the public's attention, and the organizers were able to use it to promote the exhibition with great success: the day after the fire, the exhibition reached its peak attendance and remained full right up to the end. A fine testimony to the Universal and International Exhibition of Brussels, which took place in Brussels from April 23rd to November 1st 1910, and was visited by almost 13 million people, over an area of almost 90 hectares.
