DUBUFFET.-
"The Little Messenger of the Summer Fair". Numbers 1 to 3 (complete collection). Ephemeral magazine created by Jean Dubuffet to defend "Le Salon d'été". Paris, 1977-1978, 3 fasc. in-folio, in sheets, folded in 3. First edition. Jean Dubuffet designed for Renault a monumental project, which he had named "Le Salon d'été", and which the company had to make in white, black and blue polystyrene. The waterproofing of the slab posed some doubts, and Jean Prouvé, who was entrusted with the follow-up of the construction site, opted for polyester, which tripled the bill. The new director of Renault finds that all this costs too much and decides to stop the work. Left abandoned, the half-built installation ends up covered with grass. Jean Dubuffet then decides to continue the enterprise. For him, an artist has the right to oppose the destruction of his work, even if it is unfinished. After several procedures and judgments, the artist obtains a decision in his favor in April 1983: the Court of Cassation considers that Jean Dubuffet is within his rights in requiring Renault that the monumental sculpture finally sees the day.
