BROODTHAERS.-
A collection of about ten photographs taken during Marcel Broodthaers' opening at the Cogeime Gallery in Brussels on September 27, 1966: Polaroids, small amateur color prints, 1 large modern print (Broodthaers in front of the gallery with his chicken cages), 2 negatives, 1 large plate with 6 photographs of the artist in front of the Cogeime Gallery, as well as a vintage print, stamped on the back "COGEIME S. A. Tableaux", showing some of the people present at the opening, including the owner of the gallery Ivan Lechien, with the "Robe Maria" on the wall.A. Tableaux", showing some of the people present at the opening, including the owner of the gallery, Ivan Lechien, with the "Robe de Maria" on the wall. This work has for origin a combination of circumstances. Busy finishing the hanging, the artist realizes that something is missing. Embarrassed, he was thinking about a solution when his wife Maria Gillissen came back from the dry cleaner's with the dress she would wear that evening at the opening. "Here's what was missing!" Broodthaers immediately exclaimed, taking hold of the garment and hanging it on the wall. The "ready-made", subsequently bought by Herman Daled (the first Broodthaers work acquired by the Daled family), was put on canvas and embellished by the artist with a bag and eggshells... Nice set.
